When Lauren and Paul emailed me about their wedding, the phrase Museum of Science wedding jumped out right away. I knew this wasn’t going to be your typical ballroom day, and I couldn’t wait to hear more. Then I saw they were looking for a Boston wedding photographer who keeps things natural and easy—that sealed the deal.
We first chatted on Skype while they were still living in Germany. Paul showed up rocking a Boston T-shirt, which immediately made me laugh and think, “Yep, these two are my people.” A few days before the wedding, they landed in Boston, and we managed to fit in an engagement session at Boston Common. Spending that time together just confirmed what I already felt: they’re laid-back, spontaneous, and so easy to photograph.
How It All Started
Lauren and Paul’s story began in 2005 at Oktoberfest in Munich. Picture thousands of people packed into tents, music blasting, beer flowing—and somehow Paul found Lauren in the crowd. He jokes about it now, but honestly, that sounds like fate to me. They’ve been together ever since, building a life in Munich.
Lauren grew up in the Boston area (Weymouth represent!), and Paul is originally from Cork, Ireland. They got engaged in Boston right before Thanksgiving 2011. Paul popped the question during a visit home, which made the moment even more special. Planning a wedding from overseas isn’t the easiest thing, but they took their time so family and friends from Ireland and Germany could be part of it all.
Why choose the Museum of Science as your wedding venue in Boston?
If you’re thinking of getting married at the Museum of Science, let me tell you—it’s one of the most unique wedding venues in Boston. You’re surrounded by exhibits, city views, and that amazing skyline over the Charles River. For Lauren and Paul, it made perfect sense. It’s fun, unexpected, and so “Boston.” Plus, the photo opportunities are endless—think rooftop portraits, colorful backdrops, and the coolest reception vibes.
The energy in the room that night was incredible. Guests from all over the world came together to celebrate, and you could feel how much these two are loved. It’s one of those weddings where you look around and see everyone smiling, dancing, and just having the best time.
Reception at the Museum of Science
The reception took place under a big white tent on the Museum of Science lawn, right by the Charles River. Guests had the city skyline as their backdrop, which made the whole evening feel so Boston. As the sun set, the lights inside the tent glowed, and the dance floor never emptied. It was relaxed, fun, and the perfect mix of elegance and laid-back energy.
Being Their Boston Wedding Photographer
As a wedding photographer in Boston, these are the days that remind me why I do what I do. Lauren and Paul weren’t interested in stiff poses or trying to make everything perfect. They wanted real moments – laughs during the toasts, hugs that last a little longer, that look they gave each other when no one else was watching. Those are the things that matter.
If you’re planning your own Museum of Science wedding and want a photographer who will keep things natural and easy, let’s talk. Seriously, this venue is a dream, and I’d love to help you capture every part of it.
Wise words from the couple
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding celebration?
Lauren: So many! Our first look, the end of the ceremony walking down the aisle as Mr & Mrs and having that gorgeous breeze off the Charles on our 93 degree day.
Paul: The first look. Seeing my then future wife for the first time. Once the excitement of the first look was done, the rest of the day seemed to run along with a life of it’s own.
Any advice for future brides/grooms?
Lauren: Learn to delegate and don’t be afraid to do so. We did alot ourselves on multilpe visits to Boston, but we had so many loving friends and family offering to help in any way they could. Eventually, we did start accepting those offers and it just made our wedding day and week of that little bit less stressful.
Paul: Do things because you want to do them, not because it’s a tradition where you are. Don’t worry can always start your own tradition or borrow someone else’s. If you want to have the cake before the dinner, do that (btw. that’s a tradition in Germany).
Funniest memory of the night?
Lauren: My maid of honor’s speech mentioned our mutual love of NSYNC being the glue that has held our friendship together, then my brother requested “Bye Bye Bye” and showed off some pretty sick dance moves, including a battle with my new husband. It was epic.
Paul: The speeches. Everyone from Lauren’s dad to my dad, to the bridesmaid Maggie to Ciarán my best man, managed to entertain people.
Where are you going for honeymoon?
Lauren & Paul: Vieques Island, Puerto Rico
